Rich Clifford & The Saddows were originally formed back in early 2000. Following an idea of founder member & lead guitarist, Alan Scrafton, to get a band together to play authentic sounding early period Shadows music "live".

Two musican friends, John Robinson (Bass) & Mick Norrington (Rhythm Guitar) were keen to be in on the project from the start.

Original drummer Pete Lewis, another old musical aquaintence of Alan's, was enlisted. And so The Saddows were born. Early rehearsals showed promise of a good authentic Shads sound.

The band decided that for a regular gigging format, playing just Shadows instumentals would be restrictive & we all agreed that we needed to find a "Cliff" to enable us to do the Cliff & The Shads vocal material.

Rich & The Saddows are a soundalike tribute band that plays the music of Cliff with The Shadows from 1958 - 1964 along with Shadows instumentals from 1960 - 1964.

Along with all the hits like Move It, Livin' Doll & Please Don't Tease etc. you will also hear more obscure material like The Evergreen Tree, The Girl in Your Arms & The Shrine on The 2nd Floor.

Instrumentally, big hits like Apache,FBI, Wonderful Land are all there along with some great album tracks like Shadoogie, Gonzales & Find Me a Golden Street.

In trying to get the authentic sound & visual aspects of the early Shadows era, the band use Fiesta Red Fender Stratocaster guitars & Fender bass along with vintage Vox AC 30 amplifiers ( on the cool chrome stands of course) & digitally re-created multi tap echoes for the lead guitar.

Our first "Cliff "was Roy Thrussell who came from Westcliff. Roy sang with the band for 2 years before moving to Spain. Sadly Roy was tragically killed while living in Spain and although he had already parted from us, the band still miss him very much.

Then came vocalist John Bean from Brentwood, along with a new drummer Vic Scott, after Peter left for work committments. Both John & Vic parted from the band in 2004.

In came two new guys, Julian May from Maldon on Vocals & Big Rick from Burnham on Drums. These guys have fitted in superbly & this is the Saddows line up as of today.
